Bringing Home Your Axolotl
So now that you know a little more about Axolotls and your ready to or already have purchased a Axolotl it time to bring them home and get the little ones settled into their new tank.
Settling In
First thing you would want to do before you start is to turn off your aquarium light keep it off for 24 hours. This is not mandatory but it does help out when it comes to not stressing your Axolotl out especially if they were shipped and traveled a long distance. You want to get your Axolotls adapted to the temperature in their new environment so you want to let the bag or container they came in to float in the tank for 20 minuets. After 20 minuets gently release your new Axolotls into their new home.
Normal Behavior
Don't be freaked out because your Axolotl is acting a little weird when they arrive, this is normal. Your Axolotl once released in its new home may run straight for cover. You Axolotl will, once he is a little more comfortable with the new environment, explore every every square inch of the tank. It is normal for Axolotls to be very active when they are placed into a new home or their home is changed (redecorating), its just their curiosity. Your Axolotl may also refuse or accept very little food the first feeding or two. These behaviors are normal for new Axolotls and is nothing to worry about, your Axolotl will be settled in and acting normal within the first few days.
